Brotivities

My name is Ryan Scheidemantel and this is my blog. I started it with the intention of posting writings from a project I started three years ago called 'Brotivities: Activities for Bros.' and I will continue to post them as I write them. However, I wanted to expand on what this blog is about so I've decided to add other thoughts, photos, links, and writings to it.

  • R.I.P. Mark Reedy
Mark was the kindest person that I have ever known and easily the most joyful. His smile lit up every room that he walked in to. There is not one person in the world who would have a bad thing to say about Mark, he was friends with everyone and everyone loved to be around him. He was always trying to learn new things as well as teach others new things. Every summer for the last 6 years basically, Mark tried to teach me how to do a flip off of his diving board. I never got it. However, he wouldn’t get frustrated with me. That’s not how Mark was. He enjoyed the challenge of trying to get people to learn new things and even if it wasn’t going well he never got upset with the person. He was a very understanding.
Mark wasn’t that good at telling jokes, all of his friends would say that. Almost everyday he would silence a group of people so that he could tell them a new joke that he heard. Almost everyday it wasn’t good. But everyday we would listen, knowing that it was going to leave us confused as to why it was funny. That’s a skill that Mark had. He could silence a whole room to tell a joke that we all expected to be bad, yet we would still be quiet and listen because it was Mark and he always found a way to entertain us.
He was an incredibly talented, kind, loving and genuine young man. Sometimes the word genuine is thrown around and used on people who may not deserve it. Mark is not one of those people. The word genuine describes him completely. He never put on a front for anyone, he didn’t have to, because people loved him for exactly who he was. Mark Reedy was everything that every person could hope to be. As his sisters both said today at the funeral, he really was the All-American Boy.
Mark, I know that you’re looking down on us and smiling with those huge dimples and I just want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life. This weekend was proof just how huge your impact was on our student body, the teachers, and the community of Bloomfield Hills. We love you man, and we all dearly miss you. Thanks for all the memories.
